The annual Dog Swim will be held Sunday, August 26, 12-3pm. The cost is $3 per dog and $1 per human.

Park-Rec. Winter Fall Brochures are now available on http://parks.decorahia.org or may be picked up at the Park-Rec. Office, local banks and fitness centers, and the Decorah Public Library.

Activities include Adult Coed Softball, Adult Coed and Women’s Volleyball Leagues, Men’s 3 on 3 Basketball League, Spikesters Volleyball for 3rd-6th, Flag Football for 1st-6th), Kickoff Kids for 5-6 yrs, Game Plan for 1st-2nd, Sharp Shooters Basketball for 1s -3rd, Hoopsters Basketball for 4th-6th and Intro to Taekwondo for ages 4 & up. Special events include Touch-a-Truck and Turkey Shoot for all ages, Football Clinic for 1st-6th
and Whiffle Ball and Dodgeball tourneys for 6th-8th.

Registration is available online. Go to http://parks.decorahia.org and click on Online Registration & Activities. Credit and debit card payments are only accepted online. If you don’t have computer access, we are still accepting registrations by mail or in person at the Park-Rec. Office, but payment must be made by check or cash.

The Decorah Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Kids Golf Day at Silvercrest Golf Club Monday, August 20, 9am-12noon. This event is open to kids ages 9 and up. Cost is $10 per participant. Registration must be completed and payment by cash or check must be made in the Park-Rec Office by 5pm Friday, August 17.

This event will include a brief introduction and then participants will have the opportunity to golf. Participants may bring their own golf clubs. Decorah Parks & Recreation will also have some golf clubs available for those that do not have their own. Volunteers are needed for this event. If you are interested in volunteering to help with Kids Golf Day please contact the Park-Rec Office at (563)382-4158.

Decorah Parks & Recreation and the Luther College soccer teams are hosting a Summer Celebration for adults with special needs Thursday, August 16, 7-9pm in the Danan Lensing Building at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds. This is a free event and will include games, music, dancing, snacks and Culver’s custard. Participants should register for the event at www.get2g.com or by calling the Decorah Parks & Recreaiton Office (563-382-4158).

Decorah Parks and Recreation and C.R.E.W. are hosting their annual Middle School Pool Pqrty on Friday, August 3, 8:30-10:30 pm. This is a free event for all middle school students at the Decorah Municipal Swimming Pool. The evening includes swimming, music, and lots of fun. The concession stand will be open with snacks and beverages available for purchase. No outside food or beverage will be allowed at this event.

A total of 125 runners of all ages registered for the 27th Annual Fair Fun Run which was held Saturday, July 14, beginning at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds.  There was a 3 mile race for older children and adults, and a Kids Race for 12 & under.  Check out the full results by clicking HERE 

The Decorah Parks and Recreation Department has announced the opening of the Decorah Dog Park located at 1788 Old Stage Road between Walmart and the City Wastewater Plant.  The idea for the Dog Park was that of local citizens who raised the money needed and organized the concept for this park. The Decorah Dog Park is a community park.  Park users should park at Walmart and walk to the park entrance. There is no parking at the Decorah Dog Park. This free event Tuesday, June 5, 5:30-7pm at the Decorah swimming pool will feature live music from The Buck Hollow Band, face painting, a bouncy house, a water wall, free popcorn, and other items for purchase! This event is sponsored by Decorah Bank & Trust Co. No need to register, just show up!

Decorah Parks & Recreation and the Iowa DNR are hosting a fishing day beginning at 1pm at Twin Springs Pond. This event is free and is geared for children ages 12 and under (ages 8 & under must be accompanied by an adult). Children should bring their own poles and bait (worms). Only a very limited amount of equipment and bait will be provided. This event is part of Free Fishing Weekend (fishing license is not needed for Iowa residents from June 1-3). No need to register, just show up!
