Palisades Park Closed to Vehicle Traffic

Dug Road Closed for Repair

Dug Road is closed to all users.

Repairs have begun on the Dug Road portion of the Trout Run Trail. The Dug Road section of the trail will be closed until work is complete. Thank you for your patience during construction.

3rd grade Sharp Shooters November 18 Time Changed to 12:15pm

Due to a performance in the Carrie Lee auditorium this Saturday, November 18 the time of the 3rd grade girls  and 3rd grade boys basketball sessions must be adjusted. All 3rd graders (boys and girls) should meet in the Carrie Lee gym at 12:15pm Saturday, November 18.  All other grade levels will continue as originally scheduled.

Please note that this is a different time than last week. This is an adjustment that must be made for this one Saturday. We will return to the originally scheduled times next Saturday, November 25. We apologize for the change in schedule and thank you for understanding.

G2G Christmas Celebration for Adults with Special Needs

Decorah’s Get-2-Gether Committee and Decorah Parks and Recreation are hosting a free Christmas Celebration for adults with specials needs from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Elks Lodge in Decorah.  Adults with special needs are invited to join Decorah Parks & Recreation and Luther Women’s Soccer Team volunteers for a morning of games, wooden reindeer making, music, card making, cookie decorating and a visit from Santa.

Sponsors and community donations allow G2G volunteers to offer these events at no cost to participants.  Participants should register for this event by Wednesday, November 29, to allow volunteers to plan accordingly. Winter Activity Registration Begins Nov. 15

The winter brochure of recreation activities will be released and registration will begin at 8am, Wednesday, November 15. This brochure includes Biddy Basketball (ages 3 thru Kindergarten), after school programs, and a brand new event featuring giant inflatables!

Turkey Shoot Results

154 people participated in the 35th Annual Decorah Park-Rec. Turkey Shoot on Monday, November 6.  This parent-child free throw contest was held in the high school gym.  There were 10 age categories (combined ages of parent and child) and a turkey was awarded to the top scoring team in each category.  Turkeys were provided by Quillin’s and other prizes by Bruening Rock Products, Deco Products, Hovden Oil, Rockweiler Appliance & TV, and T-Bocks Sports Bar & Grill.  Turkey and drawing winners should pick up their certificate or prize at the Park-Rec. Office by Thursday, November 9, as the Park-Rec. Office is closed on Friday.

Turkey Shoot is November 6

A free activity . . .  just show up!   In this fun family event, a parent and child team up, combine their ages to determine their competition bracket, and each shoot 10 free throws in an attempt to win a certificate for a free turkey.   In addition, all teams are eligible for a prize drawing.  The “shoot” will be held in the DHS Main Gym on Monday, November 6, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.  Winning teams will be posted on the Park-Rec. website and Facebook on Wednesday, November 8.  This free event is sponsored by Quillin’s Food Center, Bruening Rock Products, Deco Products, Hovden Oil, Rockweiler Appliance & TV, and T-Bocks Sports Bar & Grill.

 

Campground Closes Sun, Oct 29

Pulpit Rock Campground in Decorah will close for the season on Sunday, October 29. The last night of camping will be Saturday, October 28. All campers and tents will need to be removed from the campground by regular check out time on Sunday, October 29. Thank you for a wonderful camping season, we hope you will visit us again next spring.

Decorah Dog Park

The new Dog Park will be located on a 2-acre plot of land behind the Decorah Walmart.   Donations are being collected for this new park and will be matched dollar-for-dollar if received by  Thursday, October 26.  The Phase 1 Goal of $30,000 is within reach as contributions and matching dollars currently total $22,000.  Upon reaching the $30,000 goal, work can begin on Phase 1  of this project which includes seeding, fencing and signage.  This project was initiated by community members.  Charitable donations can be sent to:  Decorah Parks and Recreation Dog Park, 400 Claiborne Drive, Decorah, IA 52101.  All checks must be made out to: Decorah Parks & Rec Dog Park.

2017 Touch-a-Truck on Sat, Oct 7th

Join us for a fun, free, open house event for the whole family in the parking lot behind the Fire Department on Saturday, October 7, from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. Kids will have the opportunity to explore their favorite vehicles including police, fire and emergency vehicles, construction equipment, and city maintenance vehicles. This event is hosted with the Fire Department in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, and includes a free hot dog lunch.
