The Park-Rec. Winter Activities Brochure is available November 15 online or may be picked up at the Park-Rec. Office, local banks and fitness centers, and the Decorah Public Library.

Activities include Biddy Basketball for ages 3 to 6 years, Ecology Explorers for K thru 4th, Intro to Taekwondo for 4 years on up, free drop-in activities such as Adult Recreational Volleyball, Family Open Basketball and 5th thru 8th Grade Open Basketball, and great family activities such as the New Year’s Eve Bash, Fly Fishing Workshop, and The Great Inflate

Register by clicking the Online Registration & Activities Info button. Credit and debit card payments are only accepted online. If you don’t have computer access, we are still accepting registrations by mail or in person at the Park-Rec. Office, but payment must be made by check or cash.

36th Annual Turkey Shoot Results

110 people participated in the 36th Annual Decorah Park-Rec. Turkey Shoot on Monday, November 5.  .  This parent-child free throw contest was held in the high school gym, and sponsored by Quillin’s, Deco Products Company, Hovden Oil, Perry Novak Electric, T-Bocks Sports Bar & Grill, and Viking State Bank & Trust.  Turkey and drawing winners should pick up their certificate or prize at the Park-Rec. 36th Annual Turkey Shoot is November 5

A free activity . . .  just show up!   In this fun family event, a parent and child team up, combine their ages to determine their competition bracket, and each shoot 10 free throws in an attempt to win a certificate for a free turkey.   In addition, all teams are eligible for a prize drawing.  The “shoot” will be held in the DHS Main Gym on Monday, November 5, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.  Winning teams will be posted on the Park-Rec. website and Facebook on Wednesday, November 7.  This free event is sponsored by Deco Products, Hovden Oil, Perry Novak Electric, T-Bocks Sports Bar & Grill, Quillin’s Food Center, and Viking State Bank & Trust.  For more info and rules, click here

Middle School Dodgeball Tournament Fri, Nov 2

Decorah 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are invited to participate in the annual Middle School Dodgeball Tournament Friday, November 2 (a no school day). Students form their own teams and must turn in their registration forms and the $25 team registration fee in the Park-Rec Office by Tuesday, October 30. Registration forms are available from the Middle School P.E. teachers or may be found online by clicking the link below.

The Middle School Dodgeball Tournament will be held in the Carrie Lee gymnasium. Teams should arrive and check in by 8:45am Friday, November 2. The tournament will begin promptly at 9am and will finish around 12pm.

1st-6th Grade Basketball Registration due Fri, Oct 12

Registrations for Sharp Shooters (1st-3rd grade) basketball, Hoopsters (4th-6th grade) basketball, and adult volleyball and basketball leagues are due Friday, October 12. Registration can be completed online at https://www.activityreg.com/selectactivity_t2.wcs or in the Park-Rec Office.

Sharp Shooters is held Saturday mornings, November 10 thru December 8. Hoopsters is held Saturday mornings, November 3 thru December 8. Adult leagues are held various evenings throughout the week beginning in November and running through mid-March.

Touch A Truck – Sat,Oct 6

A fun, free, open house event for the whole family!

Join us in the parking lot behind the Fire Department on Saturday, October 6, from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. Kids will have the opportunity to explore their favorite vehicles including police, fire and emergency vehicles, construction equipment, and city maintenance vehicles. This event is hosted with the Fire Department in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, and includes a free hot dog lunch.

Dog Swim Sun, Aug 26

The annual Dog Swim will be held Sunday, August 26, 12-3pm. The cost is $3 per dog and $1 per human.

Park-Rec. Winter Fall Brochures are now available on http://parks.decorahia.org or may be picked up at the Park-Rec. Office, local banks and fitness centers, and the Decorah Public Library.

Activities include Adult Coed Softball, Adult Coed and Women’s Volleyball Leagues, Men’s 3 on 3 Basketball League, Spikesters Volleyball for 3rd-6th, Flag Football for 1st-6th), Kickoff Kids for 5-6 yrs, Game Plan for 1st-2nd, Sharp Shooters Basketball for 1s -3rd, Hoopsters Basketball for 4th-6th and Intro to Taekwondo for ages 4 & up. Special events include Touch-a-Truck and Turkey Shoot for all ages, Football Clinic for 1st-6th
and Whiffle Ball and Dodgeball tourneys for 6th-8th.

Kids Golf Day Mon, Aug 20

 

The Decorah Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Kids Golf Day at Silvercrest Golf Club Monday, August 20, 9am-12noon. This event is open to kids ages 9 and up. Cost is $10 per participant. Registration must be completed and payment by cash or check must be made in the Park-Rec Office by 5pm Friday, August 17.

This event will include a brief introduction and then participants will have the opportunity to golf. Participants may bring their own golf clubs. Decorah Parks & Recreation will also have some golf clubs available for those that do not have their own. Volunteers are needed for this event. G2G Event for Adults with Special Needs

Decorah Parks & Recreation and the Luther College soccer teams are hosting a Summer Celebration for adults with special needs Thursday, August 16, 7-9pm in the Danan Lensing Building at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds. This is a free event and will include games, music, dancing, snacks and Culver’s custard.
