Middle School Pool Party

Decorah Parks and Recreation and C.R.E.W. are hosting their annual Middle School Pool Pqrty on Friday, August 3, 8:30-10:30 pm. This is a free event for all middle school students at the Decorah Municipal Swimming Pool. The evening includes swimming, music, and lots of fun. The concession stand will be open with snacks and beverages available for purchase. No outside food or beverage will be allowed at this event.

Fair Fun Run Results

A total of 125 runners of all ages registered for the 27th Annual Fair Fun Run which was held Saturday, July 14, beginning at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds.  There was a 3 mile race for older children and adults, and a Kids Race for 12 & under.  Check out the full results by clicking HERE 

Decorah Dog Park Opens

The Decorah Parks and Recreation Department has announced the opening of the Decorah Dog Park located at 1788 Old Stage Road between Walmart and the City Wastewater Plant.  The idea for the Dog Park was that of local citizens who raised the money needed and organized the concept for this park. The Decorah Dog Park is a community park.  Park users should park at Walmart and walk to the park entrance. There is no parking at the Decorah Dog Park. Fair Fun Run Pre-registration is due Fri, June 29

Please note only runners who pre-register by June 29 and pay $10 will receive a shirt.  The Decorah Parks & Recreation Fair Fun Run will be held Saturday, July 14.  This event for the whole family consists of a 3/4 mile distance for children 12 and under and a 3-mile distance for older children and adults.  Each participant is eligible for a prize drawing held during the awards ceremony (must be present to win).  Refreshments are also provided.  Awards to 1st-3rd place in each age division.

Pre-register in the Park-Rec. Office or online (https://parks.decorahia.org).  Entry fee is $10 with shirt included and $5 without a shirt.  Late registration will be in the Variety Tent at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds from 7:15 to 7:45 am on race day.   The 3/4 mile run starts at 8:00 am and the 3 mile at 8:30 am from the fairgrounds.  The awards ceremony will be held in the Variety Tent shortly after the last participant finishes (approximately 9:30 am)

Free Slide into Summer Family Fun Night

This free event Tuesday, June 5, 5:30-7pm at the Decorah swimming pool will feature live music from The Buck Hollow Band, face painting, a bouncy house, a water wall, free popcorn, and other items for purchase! This event is sponsored by Decorah Bank & Trust Co. No need to register, just show up!

Free Kids Fishing Day – Sat, June 2

Decorah Parks & Recreation and the Iowa DNR are hosting a fishing day beginning at 1pm at Twin Springs Pond. This event is free and is geared for children ages 12 and under (ages 8 & under must be accompanied by an adult). Children should bring their own poles and bait (worms). Only a very limited amount of equipment and bait will be provided. This event is part of Free Fishing Weekend (fishing license is not needed for Iowa residents from June 1-3). No need to register, just show up!

Summer Registration begins May1

Registration for summer recreation activities and swimming lessons runs May 1 thru May 25.  Get a pool pass at a reduced price if purchased by June 1.  To get summer information and to register online, click on the Online Registration & Activities Info icon.  Credit and debit cards are accepted online.

You may also register at the Park-Rec. Office (checks and cash only) from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday.  Brochure information can be viewed or downloaded from the online website or you can pick up copies at the Park-Rec. Office, local banks, and the Decorah Public Library.

Soccer Deadline is Fri, March 16

The deadline to register for Decorah Park-Rec. Youth Soccer Leagues is Friday, March 16.  League Divisions are Pee Wee Coed (3-4 yrs), Coed TK/Kindergarten (5-6 yrs), Boys 1st-4th Grade, Girls 1st -4th Grade, and Coed 5th thru 7th Grade.  All games are held at the Will Baker Athletic Fields.  Pee Wee Coed Soccer League is held Saturday mornings, April 21 thru May 12, and the cost per child is $20 (which includes a t-shirt).  All other leagues are held Saturday mornings, April 7 thru May 12, and the cost per child is $25 (which includes a t-shirt).  For more information and to register online, click the Online Registration & Activities Info button.  Credit and debit cards payments are only accepted online.  Registration may also be made in person at the Park-Rec,. Office, but only check or cash payments are accepted.

 

2018 Spring Recreation Activities

Spring brochures are available at the following link Online Registration & Activities Info or may be picked up at the Park-Rec. Office, local banks, and the Decorah Library.  Activities include Adult Softball Leagues, Youth Soccer Leagues for ages 3 thru 7th grade, Water Wizards for kindergarten thru 2nd grade, and Intro to Taekwondo for ages 4 and up.  Special events include The Great Inflate & Pancake Breakfast, the Easter Egg Hunt, and the Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championship.

Credit and debit card payments are only accepted online.  If you don’t have computer access, we are still accepting registrations by mail or in person at the Park-Rec. Office, but payment must be made by check or cash.

 

 

G2G St. Patrick’s Day Party

Adults with special needs are invited to join the Luther College Men’s Soccer Team for a St. Patrick’s Day Party on Saturday, March 17, 2-4pm at the UCC Church (209 W Broadway St.) in Decorah. This event will feature music by Tom Hauber, games, crafts, bingo, a photo booth, snacks, and Culver’s custard. Participants are encouraged to wear green and dress in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day.

 

This is a free event that is made possible through sponsors and community donations, but registration is required. Participants should register for this event by Wednesday, March 14, to allow volunteers to plan accordingly.  Registration can be completed online at www.get2g.com or by contacting the Decorah’s Parks and Recreation office, (563) 382-4158 or parkrec@decorahia.org.
