October 18 Deadline for Sharp Shooters & Hoopsters Leagues

The deadline for two youth basketball leagues is Friday, October 18.  Sharp Shooters is for boys and girls in grades 1st thru 3rd and is held in the Carrie Lee Elementary Gym on Saturday mornings, November 9 thru December 7.  Registration fee is $25 per child and includes a reversible jersey.  Hoopsters is for boys and girls in grades 4th thru 6th and is held in the Middle School Gym on Saturday mornings, November 2 thru December 7.  Registration fee is $30 per child and includes a reversible jersey.  You may register online or  in person at the Park-Rec. Office.  Credit and debit cards are only accepted online.

School’s Out We’re In – deadline extended to Wed, Oct 16

Children ages 5 thru 8 are invited to join us for a full day of fun on Monday, October 21 (No school day)!  Program supervisors will be Erika Randall and Judy Moen.

Children will participate in outdoor play, games, crafts, and other choice activities that are sure to keep them busy and entertained on this no school day.  Participants should bring a lunch, water bottle, outdoor shoes and clothes, and an extra pair of tennis shoes to wear indoors. A morning and afternoon snack will be provided.

All participants should be dropped off in the Carrie Lee gym between 7:45am and 8:15am. All children should be picked up at 3:45pm. Please enter Carrie Lee through the gym entrance just south of the Middle School on Winnebago Street.

Cost is $20 per participant. Registration and payment are due Wednesday, October 16. Registration can be completed online or in the Park-Rec Office.

 

 

Touch A Truck – Sat, Oct 5

A fun, free, open house event for the whole family!

Join us Saturday, October 5, 11:00 am-1:00 pm in the parking lot behind the Fire Department. Kids will have the opportunity to explore their favorite vehicles including police, fire and emergency vehicles, construction equipment, and city maintenance vehicles. This event is hosted with the Fire Department in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, and includes a free hot dog lunch.

Sept 13 Deadline for Kickoff Kids

This program for children ages 5 to 6 meets at the Will Baker Athletic Fields on Saturday mornings, September 21 thru October 12.  Participants will jump, run, grow and have fun as they play games and learn some basic skills. Each week includes different tag games, sports skills, and fun agility exercises to keep kids moving and engaged.  Two time slots to choose from:  9:15-10:00 am OR 10:15-11:00 am (20 maximum per time slot).  Registration Fee:  $20.  Register online or at the Decorah Park-Rec. Office by September 13. 

 

Decorah Pool End-of-Year Schedule

REGULAR SEASON HOURS THRU AUGUST 22  Monday thru Friday: 1:00-8:30 pm public swim.  Saturday and Sunday: 1:00-8:00 pm public swim.  Lap/aquacise as regularly scheduled.

EXTENDED SEASON HOURS  Friday, August 23: morning/noon lap & aquacise only.  Saturday, August 24: noon lap, 1:00-8:00 pm public swim.  Sunday, August 25:  noon lap, 1:00-6:00 pm public swim.

G2G Summer Celebration

Decorah’s Get-2-Gether Committee and Decorah Parks and Recreation are hosting a free Summer Celebration for adults with special needs from 5:30-7:30 pm on Friday, August 16 at Whalen Cabin near Phelps Park.  Adults with special needs are invited for an evening of music, games, bingo, a hot dog supper provided by the Elks, and Culver’s Custard. Volunteers will be provided by the Luther College Soccer Teams.  Sponsors and community donations allow G2G volunteers to offer these events at no cost to participants.  Participants should register for this event by Monday, August 12, to allow volunteers to plan accordingly.  Registration can be completed online at www.get2g.com or by contacting the Decorah’s Parks and Recreation office, (563) 382-4158 or parkrec@decorahia.org.

 

Free Yoga in the Park

Decorah Parks and Recreation is partnering with local yoga instructors to offer Free Yoga in the Park on Saturdays, 10-11am, June thru August. This program will be held in the green space west of John Cline School.

Bring your own mat or towel (limited supply available). No need to register, just show up!

Yoga in the Park is sponsored by Gundersen Health Clinic and Winneshiek Medical Center.

Fair Fun Run Pre-Registration Deadline is June 28

The Fair Fun Run will be held Saturday, July 13.  Pre-registration must be made in the Park-Rec. Office or online  by Friday, June 28.  Entry fee is $10 with shirt included  (only pre-registered paying $10 will receive a shirt), $5 without a shirt.  This event for the whole family consists of a 3/4 mile distance for children 12 and under and a 3-mile distance for older children and adults.  Each participant is eligible for a prize drawing held during the awards ceremony (must be present to win).  Refreshments are also provided.  Awards to 1st-3rd place in each age division.

Late registration will be at the Variety Tent at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds from 7:15 to 7:45 am on race day.  The 3/4 mile run starts at 8:00 am; 3 mile at 8:30 from the fairgrounds.  The awards ceremony will be held in the Variety Tent shortly after the last participant finishes (approximately 9:30 am)

Online Summer Registration extended to midnight on June 2

Online registration for summer recreation activities and swim lessons has been extended to midnight on Sunday, June 2.  This summer features a number of new activities and events including Free Yoga in the Park, Golf Camp, Drama Show Camp, and Pickleball Clinics. The Pool Opened May 26 – Do you have a pass?
