Fly Fishing Workshop (FREE)

Join The Iowa Driftless Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Decorah Park-Rec., and Winneshiek County Conservation for a Free Fly Fishing Workshop Saturday, February 3, 2024.

This FREE workshop will be held in the Decorah High School Gymnasium from 10:00am- 12:00pm and is open to all ages.

Local casting instructors will discuss equipment, demonstrate basic casts, and will work with participants on their fly casting skills. Participants will be able to watch experts and learn how to tie their favorite flies.

There is no registration required, just show up!

Middle School Dodgeball Tournament

The Decorah Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting a Coed Dodgeball Tournament for Decorah 6th, 7th and 8th graders on Friday, November 4th (no school that day) in the Carrie Lee Gym.  The games will consist of 6 players on a court per team, 3 boys and 3 girls.  Teams may have up to 8 players on their roster. Teams need to report to the gym at 8:45am and the tournament will run until approximately 12 noon.

Interested participants are responsible for creating their own teams.  Tournament rules, team entry forms and participant waivers can be found online, or can be picked up in the  Middle School office or the Decorah Park-Rec Office.  Teams must turn in rosters, waiver forms and payment to the Park-Rec office by Friday, October 28.

2021 Turkey Shoot Results

134 people participated in the 39th Annual Decorah Park-Rec. Turkey Shoot on Monday, November 8. This parent-child free throw contest was held in the high school gym.  There were 10 age categories (combined ages of parent and child) and a turkey was awarded to the top scoring team in each category.  Turkeys were provided by Decorah Fareway and other prizes by Gundersen Health System, The Getup, and T-Bocks Sports Bar & Grill.  Turkey and drawing winners are listed below and can pick up their prize in the Park-Rec. Office. Please note the Park-Rec Office is closed Thursday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

January 2016 Newsletter

2015 was a year of many FIRSTS! January – released department’s first newsletter. May – the first slide at the swimming pool was removed with plans of installing a new slide in time for the 2016 season. July – for the first time ever, Decorah was selected to host the Iowa Parks and Recreation Association Fall Workshop.  It will be held in September 2016. September – Hosted Decorah’s first Touch A Truck event. Over 500 individuals attended this free, open house event featuring vehicles and machinery from many city departments and local businesses. November – launched our first online registration system and our first Park-Rec. video.
