Adults with special needs are invited to join the Luther College Men’s Soccer Team for a St. Patrick’s Day Party on Saturday, March 17, 2-4pm at the UCC Church (209 W Broadway St.) in Decorah. This event will feature music by Tom Hauber, games, crafts, bingo, a photo booth, snacks, and Culver’s custard. Participants are encouraged to wear green and dress in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day.
This is a free event that is made possible through sponsors and community donations, but registration is required. Participants should register for this event by Wednesday, March 14, to allow volunteers to plan accordingly. The Decorah Tree Board , the Iowa State University Extension Office, Trees Foreever, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources are hosting two free workshops.
Ash Trees and Emerald Ash Borer – Learn to identify Ash trees on your property and how to look for signs of Emerald Ash Borer. Volunteers will also answer your questions & Concerns. 6pm Tuesday, February 27th in the City Hall Council Chambers. Led by Emma Hannigan
Pruning and Tree Care 101 – Learn the basic pruning techniques to help keep your trees healthy. Hands on lesson and practice on young trees. 6pm Monday, March 12 in the Decorah Parks & Recreation Maintenance Shop near Whalen Cabin. Led by Meredith Borchardt.

This workshop is free and open to anglers of all ages and levels of experience. 12 & under must be accompanied by an adult. Local casting instructors will discuss equipment, demonstrate basic casts, and work with participants on their fly casting skills. Fly tying demonstrations will also be available.
The Iowa Driftless Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Decorah Parks & Recreation, and Winneshiek County Conservation will co-host this free workshop. No registration required, just show up.
Join us for our FIRST EVER inflatable event 10am-2pm Saturday, February 24 in the Decorah High School gyms!
Participants can bounce, climb, slide, and run through 7 over-sized inflatables. This event features obstacle courses, a giant slide, toddler zone, and other inflatables provided by KidAgain Inflatable Fun Shows out of La Crosse. The Lions Club will be providing a pancake breakfast for a free will offering that will support the Tree Bank and reforesting Decorah’s parks. The Tree Board will also be available to answer questions and share information.

The ice rink and warming house will open for the season at 1pm Thursday, December 28. The ice rink is always open for skating throughout the winter except when the ‘Stay Off Ice’ sign is posted. The Wayside Warming House is open and staffed throughout the season during the hours specified below.

Decorah Parks and Recreation will begin taking 2018 reservations on Tuesday, January 2, at 8:00 am. Each shelter reservation within the Decorah Parks System covers a 6-hour time period and costs $10. Reservations for Monday thru Thursday must be made and paid for 24 hours in advance; reservations for weekends must be made and paid for by 5 pm the Thursday before the desired weekend. This is a reservation fee, not a user’s fee. Shelters not posted with a reserved sign may be used on a first come, first served basis. Whalen Cabin, located in Phelps Park, may be rented at the following rates: $40/time slot–11am to 4 pm or 5 to 10 pm; rental for all day is $55. Key must be picked up and rental agreement signed by 5 pm Thursday if a weekend rental, 24 hours in advance if renting Monday thru Thursday. Fees are non-refundable unless canceled two weekdays in advance. Scout troops may use the cabin at no cost, however reservations must be made in advance.
Decorah Parks & Recreation is hosting a free New Year’s Eve Bash 6:30-10:30pm on Sunday, December 31 in the Luther College Regents Center.
This event is sponsored by Decorah Bank & Trust and Gundersen Health System and features fun activities for the whole family including open indoor swimming, a bouncy house, basketball, football, tennis, racquetball, and pickleball. The New Year’s Eve Bash is free and open to the public with no registration required.
Pizza, Gatorade, water and other food items will be available for purchase at the concession stand.

Family Open Basketball – a free drop-in activity for 4th grade and under with a parent
This is an opportunity for kids and parents to get out of the house and enjoy some unstructured basketball play time in the gym. Little Tykes hoops and basketballs will be available for younger kids. Baskets will be lowered to 8 and 9 feet for those that are a bit older. This activity will be in the Carrie Lee Elementary Gym (enter through the north doors) on Saturdays from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, November 11 thru February 17. All children must be accompanied by an adult. 5th-8th grade Open Basketball– a free drop-in activity
