Location Change–Halloween Movie Night

LOCATION CHANGE

Due to weather, we will be moving our Halloween Movie Night inside to the Decorah Middle School Gym.

Please enter through the doors closest to the gym located on Jefferson Street. You may park in the lot on Jefferson Street and cross the bridge to enter the gym.

Popcorn will be available, bring your own drinks and other movie snacks to enjoy!

Movie starts at 7:30pm, showing Hocus Pocus!

Palisades Park Closed for Tree Removal

Palisades Park is closed to all users starting Monday, October 9, 2023.

Hazardous tree removal has begun in Palisades Park, closing the park and trail to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Thank you for your patience during this process.

The park and trail are set to re-open Saturday, October 14, 2023.

Prairie Seed Harvest

Fall is harvest season and Decorah Parks and Recreation is hosting a Prairie Seed Harvest on Wednesday, October 11, 4:30-6:00 pm at the City Prairie.

The public is invited to help collect seed for establishing prairie on other city properties.

Participants will be able to take some seed home to plant in their own yards.

Touch A Truck- October 7th

Join us for this fun, free open house event for the whole family Saturday, October 7th , 11am-1pm in the parking lot behind City Hall!
Come explore your favorite vehicles including police, fire and emergency vehicles, construction equipment, farm equipment, tow trucks, and city maintenance equipment. A free hot dog lunch will be provided by the Decorah Fire Department. This event is co-hosted with the Decorah Fire Department in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week and volunteers are provided by the Decorah Rotary Club.
No registration required, just show up!

Decorah Gear Exchange- Year 2

The Decorah Gear Exchange is the best place to sell and buy gently used outdoor recreation gear in the Decorah Driftlesss area. Find new-to-you gear, connect with other outdoor enthusiasts, gain resources about the area, and join for free activities on local trails too! 

Proceeds benefit Decorah Parks and Recreation, further expanding recreational opportunities and resources in the Decorah area.

Fall Schedule 2023

Fall COED Slowpitch begins Wednesday, September 6th at Decorah City Fields.

Flag Football starts Saturday, September 9th at Will Baker Athletic Fields.     2023 Flag Football Schedule

Spikesters Volleyball Sessions will run Saturdays, September 9th- October 14th, at Carrie Lee Gymnasium.

  • Session #1  (3rd-4th grade)
    • 8:30am- 9:30am
  • Session #2  (5th- 6th grade)
    • 9:30am- 10:30am

Fall Baseball will run Sundays, September 10th- October 1st from 3:00pm- 5:00pm, at Decorah City Fields.

Art in the Park will begin Mondays, September 11th – October 2nd from 4:15pm- 5:00pm.

2024 Pool Season Passes- Important Note

Decorah Pool Pass Members,
Thank you to everyone who purchased a pass for the 2023 season. A reminder that our last day of Public Swim
is Sunday August 20th.IMPORTANT NOTE: Please keep ALL of your physical season passes (key cards) you purchased for this season. Key cards
from the previous year can be reused with a purchase of a 2024 season pass. All lost and misplaced
cards will be charged an additional $5 to be replaced in 2024.

Gnomes in the Park 2023

Starting Monday, July 24th Gnomes in the Park returns for Nordic Fest 2023! Stop by the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce to pick up or download a Gnomes in the Park Scavenger Hunt Form and Map for a list of clues to find gnomes for your chance to win a drawing prize.

Search the park for gnomes and fill out the Gnomes in the Park Scavenger Hunt form by writing down the secret word on the back of each gnome. Return your Gnomes in the Park Scavenger Hunt form to the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce for your chance to win a drawing prize. This activity is organized by Decorah Parks & Recreation and Winneshiek County Conservation. It is perfect for kids, adults or the whole family! Please do not remove gnomes from the parks. Your completed Gnomes in the Park Scavenger Hunt form is your ticket for your chance to win a prize.

Luther College Challenge Course- August 8th

Decorah Parks and Recreation is partnering with Luther College to offer a fun, yet challenging, opportunity on the Ropes Course located on Luther College Campus Tuesday August 8th.

The two-hour challenge course programs provided by Luther offers a comprehensive adventure experience in a safe and dynamic learning atmosphere. Through active involvement in this program, groups and individuals work together through challenges that promote and complement dynamics of healthy lifestyles. Learning that is frequently associated with challenge course programming includes active participation and reflection on issues associated with diversity, leadership, team building, communication, problem solving, socialization, cooperation, self confidence, integrity, fitness, and recreational enjoyment.

*Anyone participating age 7-10 years old MUST be accompanied by an adult*

Luther College staff will work with groups to provide a comprehensive experience designed to be fun, active, and reflective. All staff facilitating groups are certified practitioners ensuring a safe, well-run program meeting Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) industry standards. Luther College requires a signed waiver/liability form that must be completed and turned in the day of the event. Participation will not be allowed without a completed form.

The course is located next to the soccer field just east of Lindeman Pond, the challenge course is a short walking distance from the Regents Center parking lot. All groups will meet at the scheduled time on the challenge course site. Challenge Course rain-date will be Wednesday August 9th.

Registration is available in the Park-Rec Office ONLY, starting Monday July 17th at 8:00am.   Registration deadline is Friday July 28, at 4:00pm.

There are two time slots available, but have limited spots.

Option 1.   August 8th    10:00am- 11:30am   $10/per participant

Option 2.   August 8th    12:00pm- 1:30pm    $10/per participant
